Gender Economic Governance for a Sustainable Future

Screenshot 2020-10-08 at 17.04.42.png

With the economic gender gap widening globally and with less than 30% of senior management roles held by women, it is essential to focus on the SDG5 for gender equality. Improving gender equality would lead to an increase GDP to €3.15 trillion across EU Member States by 2050. Establishing Gender Economic Governance is a fundamental pillar to the economy and sustainable future of Europe. However, rooted in the industrial era, the current model operating in most companies is to think of talent as a cost, and women as a niche group. But in the knowledge economy, talent is an asset, and women are key to both the talent and consumer marketplace. Acknowledging and investing in women can yield a significant return for Europe. To fully capitalise on the gender dividend, however, countries and their private sector must go beyond policies that only focus on discrimination and develop solid strategies aimed at in-corporating and retaining female talent at all business levels. Titled Gender Economic Governance for a Sustainable Future, the session sets a strong tone from the top, to rethink the corporate purpose, governance and duties by emphasising the business case for corporate action to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment at all business levels. Exploring how embedding gender equality across business strategy and operations, is a smart investment, and demonstrating that gender equality is a key component of corporate sustainability, transforming businesses for a sustainable future.

Agora Session 1 hour Programme Outline:

Part 1 : (40 min) Gender Economic Governance Presentation - guiding the audience through the gender economic vision for Europe and the conditions of good governance to transform business for a sustainable future. What is the business case for gender equality? What is the current Global & European status on gender equality? What are the primary dilemmas for economic growth and sustainability? What conditions is the private sector not meeting to attain gender equality? What is the gender economic vision for Europe?

Part 2 : (20 min) Interactive session with Amelia Lopez Huix In an interactive way Amelia Lopez Huix contrasts and bridges between the current approach towards talent development and the new strategy on Gender Economic Governance to harness talent for inclusive leadership, business competitiveness and sustainable growth.

EMBRACING POWER & PURPOSE: AN AMBITION FOR THE NEW DECADE

The Middle East has emerged as one of the most dynamic regions in the world, becoming a global leader in innovation and technological transformation through visionary and bold economic programs. Home to more than 400 million people, boasting a young and innovative workforce of 103 million, and scattered across 22 countries, the region celebrates its history of grand rulers, religious intersection, and plentiful trade. This history often misconceived for its traditional ways, is in fact the source of the region’s remarkable diversity, and the springboard for its pioneering spirit across all fields, ranging from financial innovation, entrepreneurial explosion, and climate change breakthrough to government transformation and technological disruption.

As one of the most digitally connected regions in the world, with an average of 88 percent of the population online daily, and 94 percent of the population owning a smartphone, the Middle East has become a promising ecosystem of burgeoning start-ups. Investments in the future of entrepreneurship continue to thrive, a prime example being Expo 2020 Dubai’s $100 million USD fund for projects solving social and environmental challenges. The region is ready to start the new decade stronger than ever, poised to make unprecedented breakthroughs in social and economic progress.

More than 60% of university graduates in STEM in Saudi Arabia and the UAE are women. Still, they make up only 21% of the labor force and only contribute 18% to the region’s overall GDP. In a region where women remain a largely untapped resource, they are quickly changing mindsets about their own potential. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is making great strides towards closing gender gaps and taking a stand to support diversity and inclusion initiatives that influence Middle Eastern systemic cultural, economic and political change.

Thus, the UAE government is welcoming the Women’s Forum for the Economy & Society to co-host the first-ever Women’s Forum Middle East, in celebration of International Women’s Day.This pioneering Meeting, taking place at Le Louvre Abu Dhabi and La Sorbonne Abu Dhabi on March 7-8, aims to foster women’s leadership for a daring new decade of sustainable and inclusive growth in the UAE and in the region. We believe that women’s leadership is imperative to unlock the Middle East’s tremendous economic and technological potential.

Under the theme of Embracing Power & Purpose: An ambition for the new decade, more than 600 high-level visionary leaders, thinkers and doers from the Middle East, North Africa, and beyond will gather with the ambition to drive inclusion and innovation through the new decade. The Meeting will bring women’s leadership to life on the most pressing economic and social issues of our time and contribute with insights and strong messages to the G20 being held in Saudi Arabia next November. Let’s embrace power & purpose! Let’s engage for impact!

BRIDGING THE DIVERSITY GAP - The future of leadership: investing in diversity

COME TOGETHER

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY

TQDiversityGapEvent.jpg

Male entrepreneurs tend to raise more money for their startups than female entrepreneurs. In fact, less than 1% of all investment in Dutch startups in the past ten years went to female led teams, and only 5% to mixed teams. Funding aside, the lack of diversity in the founding and leadership teams of startups is a persistent issue. But don’t be discouraged—the future is now.

Join us on March 5th for an evening of actionable insights into bridging the diversity gap in funding and leadership. In honor of International Women’s Day, we’re bringing together some of the most successful entrepreneurs in The Netherlands to share their stories of struggle and success in the startup space. Leading Dutch VCs will also offer their thoughts on the importance of investing in women led startups and diverse teams.

Bridging the diversity gap will take place on March 5 at TQ city space Singel 542 from 18:30 - 22:00.

2019 Women’s Empowerment Principles Forum

2019 Women’s Empowerment Principles Forum

The global movement for gender equality and women’s empowerment has broken new ground in recent years, by making headlines in media on sexual harassment and discrimination in the workplace globally and putting the business community in the spotlight. From driving the representation and leadership of women in management and investment decisions, ensuring equal pay for work of equal value, to increasing support for women-owned businesses and entrepreneurs, companies of all sizes and from all sectors play a tremendous role in advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment in the workplace, marketplace and community.

In tandem with the emergence of gender equality as critical corporate sustainability and risk mitigation issues, business action to advance women’s empowerment is also central to the achievement of global multi-stakeholder agendas, such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

These issues set the context for the 2019 Women’s Empowerment Principles Forum, to be held on 14 March 2019. Since its launch in 2010, the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) initiative has been at the forefront of transforming business policies, practices and approaches to advance gender equality and create opportunities for women and girls, engaging more than 2,000 businesses globally to date.

The 2019 WEPs Forum will look to the future and consider how the WEPs can help business, investors, Governments and other stakeholders navigate new opportunities and work collectively to ensure that women help define and benefit from opportunities in the future of work. The Forum will also explore how to maintain momentum on advancing gender equality, accelerate the pace of progress and position responsible businesses to rise to the challenge.

2018 Edition

Empowering women to participate fully in economic life is essential to building stronger economies and improving the quality of life for both women and men. The private sector has a central and active role to play in achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Development is about how we all choose to do business and how we reflect principles of equality on an everyday level, so they permeate our cultures, values, performance and business practices.

Companies drive gains in productivity, competitiveness and innovation by developing policies and practices to improve gender equality in the workplace, marketplace and community. Developing gender responsive procurement and sourcing from women-owned businesses is another key way companies are both promoting equality and opening themselves up to new market opportunities.

We cannot meet the objectives of the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Global Goals unless women and girls are on an equal footing with men and boys, and the private sector is essential to this mission.

In the spirit of advancing the crucial role of the private sector to achieve Goal 5: Gender Equality, UN Women, the United Nations Global Compact and the United Nations Office for Partnerships have joined forces to organize the annual Women’s Empowerment Principles Forum. The Forum will take place in New York on 15 March 2018 and provide a platform for presenting ongoing, successful business initiatives that aim to advance women’s empowerment, economic inclusion and entrepreneurship globally.

The objectives of this half-day Forum are to:

  • Build awareness of business innovations that accelerate women’s empowerment and have a real impact on the quality of life for women, men, families and communities;

  • Identify key actions to address the financing gap for women’s empowerment; and

  • Drive change and commit to scaled-up partnerships between the UN and the private sector to achieve the 2030 Agenda through women’s economic empowerment.

The ambition of the conference is to showcase private sector initiatives for gender equality and to examine how these activities can be scaled up. Private sector representatives have been invited to demonstrate their work fast-tracking women’s equal participation in the workforce, share their personal experience as women entrepreneurs, as well as to discuss how business can help ensure women’s access to finance and empowerment across the value chain.

CSR Lebanon Forum

The 8th CSR LEBANON FORUM

When the UN adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs, or Global Goals), they laid out a wide-ranging global agenda for sustainable growth through to 2030. While the Goals are intended to engage the private sector, many companies are still figuring out how they should engage with the SDGs. The global goals looked challenging enough in the past years and despite political shifts, tightening budgets and environmental manmade disasters, there is a wide agreement that achieving the SDGs will require nothing less than a transformative approach.

The 8th CSR LEBANON FORUM will focus on how together, we can make progress on the goals despite the financial constraints; build the business case to engage stakeholders; and how youth – specifically millennials, have positioned themselves as being the new driving force to yield the strongest impact.

ABOUT THE FORUM

The Concordia Annual Summit 2018

The 2018 Concordia Annual Summit will be held on September 24th-26th, 2018 in New York City, where we hope to build on the success of the 2017 Summit and elevate critical discussions as the largest and most inclusive nonpartisan forum on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

At Concordia, inclusivity remains at the core of what we do, and our 2018 Annual Summit will strive to elevate unique voices that wouldn’t ordinarily have access to such a large and diverse forum in which to be heard. We are also continuing our efforts to facilitate effective and lasting partnerships.
